Chevrolet Beat Review

This is a new Beat that was showcase and launched in Delhi Auto Expo earlier this year. There are a few cosmetic changes, the interior is slightly updated but mechanically this car remains unchanged. So the question for today remains, can the heavy discounts made this new Beat value for money deal in the 4-6 Lacs bracket, Lets find out.

The new Beat is truly a mild facelift model. Off front, Designers has worked on almost all the external parts.
The aggressive dual sport chrome grill is a lime light and finally looks appealing. Both the headlights and fog lamps are redesigned and the former gets black exent while the later gives lovely chromes around. This along with aggressively designed lines on the bonnet makes the Beat quite a look especially in the top end version.
At the back, not much have change apart from new glasses for the tail lamp, rear spoiler with LED insert and new dual tone rear bumper. The top end version continues to get alloy wheels and roof rails.
There are three main changes on the interiors of the new Beat. First is the high quality silver insert in the face of the car and lower part of the doors. Second is the steering mounted controls only found in the top end version and finally the driver seat gets the height adjustment. On the face front while the front seats are spacious and comfortable with the person like me here, space on the rear can be an issue.
While the Beat gets the goodies like rear wiper washer and steering mounting controls surprisingly Chevy has left out key features like electric out side mirrors and even a basic keyless entry. Like wise they have also dropped the climate control system from the earlier car and this new version only comes with manual air conditioning.

The Beat remains a good car for a nuclear family or a young couple but anything over that and this car can be a tight fit. Now the Beat remains a very easy and safe car to drive in the city traffic. The steering is light, the high seating as to the visibility part and of course a peppy diesel motor comes in handy. Now all these things combined together makes the Beat diesel a very good car for city use. At the same time I must say that the Beat diesel is not to be a driver’s car. However it will do what most on our one day cars will do and that is firstly drive.

Up front: - Economically the car is very good. Practically patches include general cup holders, general bottle holder and of course lot of places to keep your nick nack.
What we are driving right now is a diesel version which is essentially a three cylinder version of the same as four cylinder multi jet unit that power cars like Vista, Swift and Punto. The USP of the engine is the fuel economy that standards over 25 KMPL as per ARI. I personally own a Beat diesel for the last two year and trust me I am getting more than 20 KMPL on a daily basis in Delhi and NCR.
Surprisingly the Beat behaves like a much bigger hatchback while driving through a bad road. Suspension noise is well controlled and it is even pushing hard without having to worry about the heavy load. The Beat feels confident still about the 100 marks beyond reach you can feel high centre of gravity and the light steering does not held much as per the feedback is concerned. But then again it’s a fun to keep hatch meant to ease up your daily drive. So these will manage to server your purpose.

The new beat is sold in three different engine options, the petrol start from 4.4 lakh, the LPG start from 4.47 lakh and the diesel from 4.77 lakh ex showroom delhi.

Of course all the benefits and discounts, made this car a good deal in the segment but this comes with cost of tight rear seat, small boot and missing of some key features but if you leave all this, well at same go JUST BEAT IT!!
