Polo has been in the Indian car market since 2010 and
company has and over the last 4 years, company has given car a lot of minor
tweaks, mode head lamps, new look allow wheels and steering controls and of
course the GT Version. How ever what we have with us today is the facelift
model and this can truly because a new model as well. This is mainly because
the all new 1.5 L Diesel engine that now powers the polo in 2 versions, the
normal 90 PS and of course 105 PS in GT Version. This is the normal version but
yet believe me the engine has changed away the car behaves. So question
remains, can this new engine alone can change the fortune of Polo in India , well
stay tuned.
So as I said, the Polo has been getting the minor tweaks over the past few years and even this latest avatar the changes have been very few. As from front view, the bumper has been slightly redesigned and what catches your eyes is the lower part, it has a horizontal chrome line along with the new fog lamps. Look closely and you will know the new headlight housings, how ever the overall design of the outer part of this Polo is remains unchanged.

Now before I tell you guys the engine parts, let me
finishing the interior first. The moment you step in, you actually feel not
much of change, how ever think some and you will notice three main changes. The
whole black look of steering is actually looks very nice and in behind of that
the display color of meter and tachometer console is now white. Next the center
consol is redesigned and get the chrome insert but the chrome insert is
actually missing on the GT Version. Economically and practically the Polo
scores very high. Face upfront is very good but when you go to back seat, you
will be missing the knee room, lack of ac vents and also lack of rear arm rest
as well. How ever overall I think as a driver’s car the Polo is very good.
So as you see there are slight changes on the outside & few good from the Inside. Lets talk about the big change here, the new diesel motor and before I get in to the details let me explain what the need for a new motor. The older GT TDI had a 1.6 L Diesel engine with really allowed the Polo with the small car text norms. How ever hand to order in genetic to these norms, Volkswagen decided to downsize this 1.6 L engine to 1.5 L one and is offering this new engine in 2 states of tune, 90 PS for this TDI Model and off course105 PS for the GT TDI Model, the model that go on sales next month. Now in terms of engine that offers, the both petrol option 1.2 MPI and the TSI Version remains unchanged. However on the diesel front Volkswagen has given the Polo an only 1.5 L 4 Cylinder diesel engine, now in the terms of capacity the engine has gone up from 1.2 L to 1.5 L, maximum power has gone up from 75 PS to 90 PS and torque max up at 230 NM and the overall in the car behaves on both open roads and in the traffic is changed massively. There is old of a flock at low end and there as car pull creamily from as low as 1000 rpm is been remarkable from a hatchback in its segment. The only downside I see in complete power train is a slightly heavy clutch. Volkswagen has also rework on the suspension and this is done wonders in the way that the car absorbs under lections and imperfections. The Polo what always known for its good drive but this one is even better. How ever these changes slightly effective the way this hatch back handles at high speed. Its still is a fantastic driver’s car no doubt but it not good as it just built. On that note even driving it on high speed on bumpy roads translates it in to a lot of vertical movements inside the car. How ever most owners will tell them drive their car very drastically and this is where the new Polo forces them will be mature and more comfortable. So the new Polo looks slightly better, the interior feels slightly more up market how ever the diesel engine that’s the main talking point here. I think as a driver’s car the new Polo is still unbeatable in the segment. How ever we Indians want a lot more things in the car and this is where the problem for the polo could starts, the lack of rear seat space, the lack of arm rest, the lack of rear ac vents and the real cup holders could be a highline for the Indian family. That said, in to yes cars a driver’s car this car has really improved over the earlier versions. And this is where the new Polo will easily keep on rolling that the cash distracts at Volkswagen India. On that note I will take you leave.
