The Etios Cross was first shown to you and me at the Auto
Expo which was held few months back and now the Toyota will finally launch this car with in a
few days time. So we though it would be perfect to check out the Etios Cross.
So then let’s go.
How does it look?
Now its not surprise that the Etios Cross is based on the
Liva Hatch Back but the Etios Cross certainly looks more rugged and has more
presence than the Liva Hatch. Now when it comes to design details, the Etios
Cross has a grill guard, side and rear cladding, roof rails, new front grill,
roof spoiler, fog lamps with integrated turn indicators. The cladding adds
presence and makes the Etios Cross rugged plus the new inferno orange further
ads to the appeal. Etios Cross has basically 8 color options with a lot of
bright colors added which certainly makes it stand out of the crowd. The rugged
styling details actually look the best in these bright colors. Over all the
Etios Cross has good build quality and comes across as a much better looking
car than the Etios Liva or even the Sedan .
What about interiors?
So it is obvious that a lot of the details are shared with
the Liva Hatch Back when it comes to the interiors. Details like the centrally
mounted Speedo and the Steering mounted controls etc. but the bigger changes in
the Etios Cross include a most sportier thing carried out. The new Etios Cross
has a black cabin which certainly looks much better and actually looks more
sportier. The sportier thing is being carried on with the new seats fabric with
white stitching and logo. Space is same so comfort levels are pretty good and
it’s quite spacious. When it comes to features, the Etios Cross has a 2 Din
Audio with Bluetooth, USB, an Aux-In and
Remote. Audio controls are also there on leather wrapped steering wheel. There
is cooled glove box, rear defogger, tilt steering etc. In the safety
department, the Etios Cross has dual front Airbags and ABS with EBD.
How does it drive?
The Etios Cross has 3 engine options which are same as rest
of the Etios Sedan and Liva
Hatch Back
Range . Now we are driving
the 1.5 L Petrol Engine and on first impressions, just like the Liva is
actually quite a fun motor. There is lot of performance, healthy amount of torque,
put a foot down and performance is really good. In fact I would say this is the
one that actually suits the Etios Crosses sort of outdoor character. Along with
the fun 1.5 L petrol engine the Etios Cross has also the diesel engine. Now a
lot of you will choose the diesel for its fuel economy and actually it’s quite
a good engine. Performance is actually quite a good. There is decent amount of
torque and in the high speeds it does not feel low, of course it just can’t
match the fun fact of the 1.5 L petrol but after say for diversity use is
actually quite adequate. The steering is light, the handling is quite decent
but real plus point of the Etios Cross is definitely the ride which is just
fantastic.
Verdict?
The Etios Cross comes in 4
Variants including Diesel and Petrol and Standard Equipment is actually quite
impressive. We expect the Etios Cross to be around Rs. 60 to 70 thousand more
expensive compare to the Liva Hatch Back which means there is actually decent
value for money. The Etios Cross looks good inside and out and is easily a more
desirable package compare to Sedan or the Hatch Back plus as the estimated
prices, the Etios Cross will also be cheaper when compare to its main rivals.
So it seems, Toyota
have got a winner on their hands with the new Etios Cross.
