Nissan Terrano or Renault Duster, it’s really hard to spot
the difference when you look at them in quick succession. That’s the trouble
with bad engineering, although Nissan has gone to great length to make the
Terrano look quite different. If you were trying to pick between these two very
compact SUV’s, which one should you consider? Well that depends on how much you
are willing to spend. The Nissan Terrano is slightly more expensive than the
Duster depends on variant to variant.
For instance: -
The base Terrano diesel starts about 9.6 Lacs Rupees while
the base diesel Duster starts about 8.8 Lakh Rupees Ex-Showrrom. At the top
end, the Nissan Terrano XV Premium variant costs 12.46 Lacs while the Duster
RXZ Opt variant is in 12.18 Lacs. On road the price difference would be even
more.So what really assess these two apart: -
First the Looks, the Terrano’s front end with Sleek Head
Lamps and Typical Nissan Grill do look quite classy and up market but then the
Renault Duster Twin Barrel Head Lamps and Macho Grill gives it a retro look
that looks more amnesic. From the Sides, these two looks quite similar except for
minor difference in the Crease lines along the doors and the roof rails and of
course the different design for the alloys in the top end variant.
As it on the rear, the Terrano really outshines the Duster,
the tail lamps and the boot lit design do look far better than rather the blank
rear of the Duster. It’s that what the premium. No.
Ok, lets look the features and offer on the top end
variants. The Terrano has a redesigned dashboard with a different center
console and a neat storage box on top. This does look better than the Duster’s
dash, how ever when it comes to features in the top end variant, the Duster
have the one feature that Terrano does not have, steering mounted Bluetooth,
Phone and Audio Controls. In all other aspects, be the beige interiors,
electronically adjustment of rear view mirrors and door lock buttons both these
are identical. Mechanically as well the Terrano and the Duster are identical.
Both come with same engine and transmission choices. The one you see here is a
1.5 L diesel engine; both have 85 PS and 110 PS Variants of the same. In terms
of drivability, both have good drive quality and handle rough roads with ease.
So then it is worth paying a little extra for the Nissan Terrano not quite
unless you want that individuality. But surprisingly, there are fair numbers of
buyers who prefers the Terrano looks over the Duster and at the end of the day
looks do matter.
